Sex

SEX was completed sometime in late 2013 based on an eyes-closed late night ink smear in my sawed-off Moleskine quad-ruled notebook. It was my habit as I flew around the country working as a guitar tech for REO Speedwagon, to clean and fill my fountain pens in the wee dark hours and make a smear to work on before riding with Edvard in his limo cab to LAX from Sierra Madre to catch an early morning flight to anywhere.  Once on board the plane I would start with my pencil, defining images as they emerged to me from the multi-colored smears. I always tried to remain true to what the smear showed me - like reading tea leaves.  I would draw for hours on end, in the plane, on the tour bus, in hotel rooms and coffee shops. This one became a swirling, undulating meditation on the prevalence of sex in our advertising, our various forms of media, in our portrayals of women and men, the pleasure it gives, and how it can haunt us and lead us down sometimes dangerous paths.
